Hypedrive Cars and Vinyl Makes Its Mainland China Debut in Guangzhou

Hypebeast, the leading global platform for contemporary culture and lifestyle, has successfully concluded Hypedrive Cars and Vinyl, a new offline cross-cultural experience originating from New York, at Taikoo Li Julong Wan, Guangzhou, marking the concept’s first ever edition in Mainland China. Held across two consecutive weekends from May 16, the four-day event united automotive culture, analog music, and street culture, drawing enthusiasts from across the Greater Bay Area.

Staged beneath the historic Chongkou Warehouse of Taikoo Li Julong Wan, exhibitors and community partners transformed the venue into an interactive landscape spanning custom automotive builds, vinyl culture, handcraft workshops, and late night DJ programming.

The vendor floor drew a broad cross-section of automotive and street culture. RDM PSYCHO presented a dedicated showcase of hardcore custom Harley-Davidson culture, while Open Dialogue joined forces with Tyson Yoshi’s brand TRIPLET to debut an exclusive “Racing Club” themed tee. Color change wrap pioneer Inozetek demonstrated the breadth of automotive visual modification, and CAMMUS deployed professional racing simulators for motorsport enthusiasts on the floor.

This multifaceted energy carried through the remainder of the floor. HAMCUS staged a custom claw machine installation alongside its signature art toys, and COSTS activated its trademark high-texture retail environment. The Purist Group, a North American automotive lifestyle collective, brought its ethos of community and charity to the Greater Bay Area, while Hong Kong’s Raw Emotions recreated a traditional garage market aesthetic within the RAWEMOCASA conceptual space, placing floral arrangements in direct contrast with cold, raw engines. The vinyl programme was anchored by ANTH and DISC JOKER, whose sets drawn from founder Trace’s personal collection provided the soundscape of modern youth culture.

At the center of the floor, eight standout vehicles comprised the event’s headline display. Highlights included a pristine white Toyota Supra A80 presented as a cross-oceanic tribute to the late Paul Walker; a Nissan GT-R R35 bearing signatures from global automotive figures; and an ultra-rare Nissan Z making its Guangzhou debut. Two members of the modern hypercar “Holy Trinity”, the Porsche 918 Spyder and the McLaren P1, were displayed in full, their exposed carbon fiber monocoques and V8 powertrains drawing the eye.

Further standouts included the Hana x TBC x Inozetek collaborative GT-R R35 Nismo finished in an avocado green wrap, a classic Lamborghini Diablo GT in a custom black-and-white gradient, and a vintage Volkswagen Santana reimagined live by contemporary artist whyyy through a live ink-wash graffiti session.

Beyond the striking visuals, community programming ran across all four days. A panel talk on the opening day brought together CCHAN, Catherine, and Ya Bao to discuss the “analog romance” of mechanical gearboxes and vinyl records. Workshop sessions gave attendees the opportunity to stamp custom leather keychains at the RDM workshop and develop DJ technique at the ANTH and DISC JOKER session. At golden hour along the Pearl River, DamLab hosted a kendama activation while FOOTYGIRLS led a light-footed football session. As night fell, ANTH’s exclusive DJ Night rounded out each evening, spanning UK Garage, Phonk, and industrial Techno, resonating in counterpoint to the assembled hypercars parked within the Chongkou Warehouse.

Hypedrive Cars and Vinyl underscores the Greater Bay Area’s importance within Hypebeast’s expanding offline event portfolio, with the concept’s Mainland China debut signalling the continued evolution of immersive, community-led cultural programming across the region.
